A bit about life.

We tried a few new places recently, and for the 2 that is blogged for this entry, i personally feel that one was good and the other was not so. Let's start with the good =)

We went to this restaurant just nearby which was opened by a (if I'm not wrong) Suria tv channel celebrity chef. The impression I had on this place before dining there was that it was always having long queue and I wouldn't be bothered to queue for this place as there was many nice dining restaurants around too. But I'm glad we ate here at least once because I think the steak is cooked really well (just right to the degree that we ordered). They sell other food like fish & chips and other stuff too, but I guess steak would be their specialty as their name suggest ;) Here's the photo of steak #1:
 And here's steak #2:
On top of that, we saved some tummy space for desserts because we can't wait for our holiday to eat it: Belgium Waffles! It was okay lah, not too bad but I liked the ones in Korea way way better.

Okay, talking about Korea, the next outlet we visited was a korean-styled charcoal bbq restaurant. As we had visited one of the BEST kcb (korean-charcoal-bbq) restaurant before, my expectations for kcb was quite high. And maybe it's because of that that I didn't really find this place all that enticing. Of course there were other factors too, like this place doesn't use pure charcoal. By that, I mean they started heating a single layer of charcoal with the normal gas-fire (which is okay), then they off-ed the fire (which makes me go: wow this is really a kcb), then we realized that there wasn't much heat going on when our food was taking way too loong to cook (which we thought was due to the charcoal not heating well enough but even the staff came and re-on the fire), and finally, our food cooked at the speed it was supposed to, by the fire. So in short, we had a normal bbq-with-fire style meal, with a layer or burnt charcoal that was not replenished even when it burned out. The charcoal quantity you see, is the charcoal quantity you get. I am actually okay if the restaurant was named korean bbq, but they inserted a 'charcoal' into it and I just feel it's not worthy of that description. I would so much rather eat 2D1N than this.
Another thing I find odd about the way things are done is regarding the xiao cais. Because we were told that they are replenishable, so we asked for replenishing when we finished. And it took quite loong to come. What's my perception of long? Imagine the waitress/waiter walk past you 3-4 times (sometimes serving customers other times I'm not sure what they're doing), and there nearby there's this tray full of xiao cais which they just brought out not too long ago. It's quite funny that in the end, the xiao cai came from that tray because if they let us and if it didn't seem that rude, I would have took 2 steps and went over to get it and save their "effort" to get it. So in short, the waiting time was a boo boo for me.
One thing I have to admit, the service did sped up abit in the later part for the water & ice refilling. Yup, and the marination for the chicken was not bad, and and the beef was very nicely & thinly sliced. Their lettuce also looked really fresh and I really liked the colours.
Also, there's this pumpkin noodles that tasted like dang hoon and it wasn't too bad!
The soup I ordered (the supposedly non spicy version) came filled with chillis. It was okay and I ate a few cucumbers before giving it up.
Finally, I always had the impression that bosses are always very friendly people who would try their best to mingle with the customers of their shops. But this shop changed my stereotype. Throughout the meal, I observed that the ladyboss (I think she was the ladyboss) didn't once smiled while serving food or even when we thanked her. She didn't show a smelly face either, but her face was just the same monotonous look. Even when we left, the staffs thanked us but she didn't. Come to think of it, I don't rmb hearing her speak at all. Maybe she was having a bad day that day, but as service-person (and what's more being the boss), hospitality should be innate no matter a good or bad day. So all in all, I will call this a once in a lifetime experience because it'll be the place that I only want to experience it once in my entire life and I wouldn't go back if I have the choice.
